An educational awareness event titled “Algorithms and Freedom” was successfully organized at Pokhara Adarsha Secondary School to introduce students to the concept of individual liberty in the digital age. The program focused on how digital algorithms and external systems influence students’ thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and choices, emphasizing the growing importance of understanding data, privacy, and digital autonomy.

The event aimed to help students understand freedom in both physical and digital contexts, explore how social media algorithms shape identity and decision-making, raise awareness about data privacy and manipulation, and introduce the idea of social and cultural “algorithms.” It also equipped students with practical strategies to protect their privacy, manage digital habits, and consciously reprogram internal behaviors for greater independence.

Through interactive presentations, real-world examples, and open discussions, students learned how algorithms work, their impact on attention, emotions, and validation-seeking behavior, and the risks of misinformation and digital addiction. Students showed strong engagement, expressed curiosity about digital manipulation and privacy, and reflected critically on their own online habits.

Overall, the event successfully empowered students with knowledge and tools to navigate the digital world more consciously, strengthening their understanding of freedom, personal responsibility, and informed decision-making
